Day 1| Arrival – City tour of Addis Ababa
Arrival and city tour of Addis Ababa. Visiting Addis Ababa, often called the “capital of Africa,” is a fascinating experience! The city is home to the Afrian Union (AU) and numerous diplomatic missions, making it a major hub for international relations. A city tour of Addis Ababa is an incredible experience, offering a mix of history, culture, and vibrant local life.
Day 2 | Addis – Lalibela
Fly to Lalibela and visit the magnificent rock-hewn church of Lalibela – A UNESCO World Heritage site featuring 11 medieval churches carved from a single rock. Overnight at Lalibela
Day 3 | Lalibela – Gondar
Fly to Gondar and visit of the medieval capital city. Visiting Gondar and Debre Birhan Selassie Church is a journey through Ethiopia’s rich history and stunning architecture. Gondar known as the Camelot of Africa, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was built in the 17th century by Emperor Fasiledes. Overnight at Gondar
Day 4 | Gondar – Simien Mountains – Gondar
After an early breakfast, you can set off from Gondar to Simien Mountain towards Debark, the gateway to Simien Mountains National Park. This day trip offers breathtaking landscapes, unique wildlife, and incredible hiking opportunities. Overnight at Gondar
Day 5 | Gondar – Bahirdar
Drive through the countryside to Bahirdar. After check in to the hotel, take a boat tour on lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile, and tour Ethiopia’s ancient monasteries, many of which are located on islands and peninsulas across the Lake.
Day 6 | Bahirdar to Jinka
Morning fly back to Addis then directly fly to Jinka then drive to Turmi. In the late afternoon explore the village of Hamar at Turmi to experience the rich culture of the Hamar people. The Hamar people are known for their elaborate hairstyle, beadwork, scarification and bull –Jumping Ceremony. If your visit coincides with bull jumping ceremony (the rite of passage), witnessing it is an unforgettable experience.
Day 7| Turmi – Kangaton – Murule – Turmi
Excursion to Kangatan to a Nyagatom village, known for ” oratory” gifts and songs. Then, continue towards Murule to admire the view of the Omo River and visit the Karo people with their body decorations and skin scarification.
Day 8| Turmi – Dassanach – Jinka
Excursion to the Omo River for the visit of the Dasssanech tribe. The Dassanech tribe is one of the fascinating indigenous groups in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley. They live near the Omo River delta, close to Lake Turkana, in a semi–arid region. The Dassanech people practice pastoralism, flood retreat cultivation, and fishing. Cattle are central to their lives, providing food, clothing, and status within the community.
Day 9| Jinka – Mursi – Arbaminch
Excursion to Mango National Park to visit the Mursi people and their villages. Here for beauty, women insert round clay plates in their lips. Then, drive to Turmi for Hamar village visit in the late afternoon. En route visit Konso village. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its fortified villages, terraced farming, and rich cultural tradition.
Day 10| Arbaminch – Dorze – Addis Ababa
Morning visit Dorze Village which known as a fascinating cultural destination! The Dorze people are known for their unique beehive-shaped huts, expert weaving skills, and traditional way of life. In the afternoon fly back to Addis Ababa
Day 11| Fly to Semera and visit Danakil Depression
Morning fly to Semera and then drive directly to the Danakil depression!! Semera is the main gateway for tours to this fascinating region in Ethiopia. In the late afternoon admire the Danakil Depression when the sun casts dramatic shadows over its surreal landscapes. The contrasts of the white salt flats and the slow-moving camels create an almost surreal landscape, especially during sunrise or sunset.
Day 12| Danakil depression to Ertale
Morning fly to Semera and then drive directly to the Danakil depression!! Semera is the main gateway for tours to this fascinating region in Ethiopia. In the late afternoon admire the Danakil Depression when the sun casts dramatic shadows over its surreal landscapes. The contrasts of the white salt flats and the slow-moving camels create an almost surreal landscape, especially during sunrise or sunset.
At night witness the awe-inspiring Ertale Volcano, home to the world’s oldest permanent Lake. The volcano is famous for its persistent lava lake, of the few in the world. At night, the glowing red lava creates a surreal and mesmerizing scene, making it a must-see for adventure seekers.
Day 13| Erta Ale – Afdera – Addis Ababa
Early in the morning, you can visit the lava lake of Erta Ale, where the sunrise adds a dramatic glow to the bubbling lava. After soaking in the surreal volcanic landscape, you can begin your drive to Semera for your flight back to Addis via Afdera. En route, you stop at Lake Afdera, which is a stunning Salt Lake where you can take a dip in the natural hot springs. Also, explore the salt mining operations. Afdera is well known for its large-scale salt extraction.
In the afternoon fly back to Addis Ababa. In the evening you will experience a cultural dinner in one of cultural restaurant to immerse yourself in the country’s rich traditions! Transfer to the airport. End of the tour.
